Carol Grimes is perhaps best known but also most often pigeonholed as 'British Soul Legend', with a recording and performing career that goes back to the 60's Canterbury Scene. At a point where she was being heavily touted by the all conquering Stigwood Organisation she took the first of several sharp left turns and went all uncommercial on everybody by joining Delivery with Lol Coxhill. Many twists and turns along the road encompassed an astonishing live career in the 60's and 70's that saw her perform alongside Cream, John Mayall's Blues Breakers, The Yardbirds, Graham Bond Organisation, Howling Wolf, Buddy Guy and Freddy King.
In London in 1977 she was one of the outspoken pioneers who joined forces to set in motion the 'Rock Against Racism' movement. Also in 2007, reconnecting with her blues and soul roots, she has just finished an acclaimed UK tour with the UK Funk All Stars, including a one hour televised special at London's Barbican Centre for BBC4's Soul Brittania series. However, 'Soul Legend' by no means sums up a talent that also encompasses contemporary classical performance in Orlando Gough's choir The Shout, and celebrated jazz performance in a variety of line ups.
Giles Perring is a member of pioneering sonic sculpture project Echo City which he founded with Guy Evans of Van der Graaf Generator. At the same time, Giles did a spell in Frank Tovey's Fad Gadget project, before he went on to form the acclaimed 90's recording project Unmen, who, David Quantick once said in NME, could make sound 'so unpleasant and frightening that it should get music banned from the airwaves'. A guitarist, percussionist and singer, Giles Perring became well known on the London free music scene for his playing with One King Poets & Ya Basta [with free music supremo Alan Wilkinson

It
has been three years since
the experimental pop band
graced us with a release,
Tinsel Stars is the bands
5th Album.
Released
on May 14th 2007 on Triumphant
Sound Records.

The band have excelled at remaining underground and obscure for a decade. Whether this is by design or destiny we shall probably never know - which ever it is, it hasn't stopped them from making great records!
Often described as eclectic boho pop, the band have genre hopped through a bewildering array of musical styles with total disregard to the A to Z of rock cool or the indie trainspotter mentality. Now that either makes them double cool or just difficult fellows! The sound has been guitar pop meets euro synths meets something unique. Wry observation and deadpan humor has permeated the bands lyrics. So some three years on where are they at now?
This record is the sound of unrealised dreams and broken hearts, the dancefloor is full and you are not on it! The misfits, the dysfunctional, the disaffected all have a home here. Tales of forgotton aspirations and lost loves. Heartfelt for sure. The band have produced something beautiful and off kilter, who cares if its hi fi or low fi, it just sounds right ! From ballads with cheap orchestras to guitar riffs that Mick Ronsen would have been proud of. It knocks you down and lifts you up. A lot seems to have happened in those three years. Listen, don't shuffle, enjoy.

Street punks meet folk from these sons of Pontefract. Big on melody, songs and not without something to say. They have just supported Rancid and have just released their debut limited edition 7" ( some on the CD page come with a CDR ). The debut album is due in March 2007 and the band will be touring next year

Listen to the single Lawful Civil Rights.
Smack-dab
between two high-profile
reunion performances with
his teenage punk/hardcore
band Negative Approach
(one at this summer's
sold-out Touch and Go
anniversary shows in Chicago,
the next at the upcoming
All Tomorrow's Parties),
drummer/songwriter/singer/guitarist/artist
Chris Moore helps redefine
what it means to be "punk"
with his latest record
release, "Us Fools."
Though the fifth record
to bear his name, "Us
Fools" is the first
Moore has recorded alongside
his band Sons. Together,
Moore and Sons show a
shared commitment not
only to the band as a
living, breathing entity,
but also to mining their
own individual eclecticism.
Joining Moore's guitar, piano and lead vocals are the Sons: Gary Langol on double bass, organ, piano; Adam D Gold on drums, vibes, percussion; Dennis Cronin (performed with Yo La Tengo, Lambchop, Calexico, Vic Chestnut ) on trumpet, accordion, melodica, percussion; and Tom Gavin on various guitars.
Us Fools is orchestral yet brawny folk-rock, fusing blues, jazz, pop,and Afro-Cuban themes. It's beautiful and lyrical. Each song on Us Fools is mystically linked by Moore's poetic observations on spirituality, society, love, death, and the shrinking natural world.

Billy
no mates started as a
solo project by me, Duncan
Redmonds, while Snuff
snoozed. The first album
"We are legion"
was entirely recorded
by me(ego ego ego), apart
from a few handclaps on
"memories come memories
go" from Tom(now
playing with Girls aloud!!)
add that to the family
tree!. Then I decided
to try to put three bands
together to play the songs
live. One in Britain one
in Japan and one in the
USA. The one in the USA
didnt work(yet) but the
other two did and it was
game on. After having
toured Japan and europe
I decided that I loved
both bands and wanted
to record with them both.
First was a split single
with Milloy featuring
the UK Billy lineup of
Duncan,Will,Wes,Joe and
Tom recording a version
of "Look at you"
and a new song "058".
Next I recorded an album
in Japan with the Japanese
members. This is available
on Pizza of Death in Japan
and 10past12 called "COMEONLETMESEEYOUPOGO".
Next plan is to record
an album with Billy no
mates UK. Lets have it!
Billy
No Mates have been touring
with the likes of Me First
& The Gimme Gimmes,
Less Than Jake and Oma
Hans. They will tour the
UK again in February and
March 2007
