Idioms my friend Ben called them, referring to punk, folk rock'n roll and world music. Idioms are often colloquial metaphors, which require some foundational knowledge, or experience. As musical cultures are typically tribalised it seems that idioms are useful for communication outside of that tribal context.
Triumphant Sound deals in idioms. The common thread that drives interesting, stimulating and exciting music. This can be found anywhere in the world where there are sweaty rock n roll clubs. From New York to Tuva taking in London and Yorkshire on the way. A direct line from the blistering punk of the Yorkshire Rats to the rock of Hungry & The Hunted, the orchestral folk of Chris Moore and the mind blowing noise of the Siberian's Yat-Kha.
For those who know the legend of the Clash at the Electric Ballroom idioms are all. Most of the people at that show are now either too old or dead. Listen to the bootlegs! On the sound system are Tennessee Ernie Ford and Toots and The Maytals. On stage supporting is Country Joe Ely. Then on comes The Clash all punk, rockabilly, reggae, and hip hop attitudes mixed up into one Triumphant Sound.
We can only dream of coming close to that legacy here at Triumphant Sound Records but we will give it a go!
Cheers
Lucy Simone
